Post-Delivery Care

Post-Delivery Care, also known as postnatal care, is the 6 week period of care that is given to the mother and baby after it is born. Although childbirth is natural, treatment after the process is important to ensure that the mother is healthy.

Without postnatal checkups, it can impact not only the physical but mental health of the mother. By overlooking postnatal appointments, there is the risk of unplanned pregnancy, a discounted infection, postnatal depression and other health problems.

Not only does the mother need to be examined but the baby as well. The baby’s checkup will be to ensure that he/she is healthy and growing healthily. The mother’s checkup includes:

  • Checking her general health
  • Examining her reproductive system (uterus, ovaries, cervix)
  • Checking her emotional and mental well-being
  • Examining her breasts for any lumps or abnormalities

It is important to allow the body to rest after pregnancy in order to remain healthy, which is why it is recommended to wait at least 18 months before trying to conceive again.
