Infertility Consultations
Infertility is the inability to conceive after having regular unprotected sex. It is recommended to see a gynaecologist if conception still hasn’t occurred after 12 months.
During an infertility consultation, Dr Zulu will review your medical history and discuss possible factors that are affecting your ability to conceive.
The cause of infertility can be due to many different factors, including issues with one or both partners. However, some couples simply struggle with timing intercourse with the woman’s time of ovulation.
The causes of infertility in men and women include:
Men
- Low sperm production
- Blockages that prevent delivery of sperm
- Abnormal sperm function
- Chronic health problems
- Injuries
Women
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
- Tubal obstruction
- Cervical issues
- Problems with ovulation
- Uterine abnormalities
Dr Zulu will conduct tests and provide insight on possible treatments that may assist in increasing your chances of conceiving. These tests include:
- Taking medical history to get insight on your menstrual period, discharge or abnormal bleeding and disorders that may affect fertility.
- Hysterosalpingography, an imaging technique used to view the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes.
- Measuring serum progesterone levels.
- Hysteroscopy to check for uterine abnormalities such as fibroids.
- Laparoscopy to check for any issues in the reproductive system such as endometriosis.
Possible treatment options include:
- Injectable hormones
- Medication to induce ovulation when ovulation does not occur naturally
- Surgery to unblock the fallopian tubes and other problems in the uterus
- Changing particular lifestyle and dietary habits
- Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
